Gentoo updates not as frequent

I've been using Gentoo for a number of years but I'm becoming increasingly dismayed at how long security updates take to get put into the portage tree.

Have others noticed this ? It used to be so well documented and supported but the documentation isn't what it used to be either.

I've had a gentoo server since about 2005 and I've not really noticed slow security updates, I have noticed some that I've got before my ubuntu desktop machine has seen.

I do however run a mix of x86 and ~x86 due to wanting some bleeding edge stuff.
