Any suggestions for securely keeping 50 keys and being able to move them safely between hosts for backing them up?

TomPating's response: Excellent. Thanks.
I get this from SCP and SSH in a script: Pseudo-terminal will not be allocated because stdin is not a terminal Any thoughts ?

TomPating's response: Ahh, the old -t -t trick. Thanks.
How do I write the system clock time to the hardware clock ? I'd like to be able to do it manually and also enforce it at reboot time. Thanks for your help.

How can I quickly see a list of those modules enabled in Apache ?

I know that the Ubuntu Server developers change the code so that Ubuntu Server will boot off the virtualisation software that Amazon EC2 use but are there other differences that I should be aware of as a Sys Admin ? I don't want to move lots of servers to Amazon EC2 and discover a year down the line that some minor difference is giving me problems.

TomPating's response: Great, thanks for the information.
I need to rackmount a few servers of different lengths. Thanks.
Asked in: Linux-Servers  (1 answers)
TomPating's response: These guys sell universal rackmounting kits and you can adjust the length of the mounting points for most racks so that they rackmount most servers (although the server just sites on the rackmount kit and doesn't screw into it). http://www.racksolutions.co.uk
How can I share a WAMP5 based database over a local area network?
Asked in: WindowsServers  (1 answers)
TomPating's response: I haven't used it but this suggests it's just a normal server so, yes: http://www.wampserver.com/en/
Are there any practical guides to doing this ? Can I even convert a VMWare VM to an Amazon EC2 cloud VM ? It would save me a lot of time if I could just upload a VMWare Virtual Machine to an Amazon EC2 VM ! Thanks.
Asked in: Virtual-Machines-Servers  (1 answers)
TomPating's response: Yes, this is possible apparently: http://thewebfellas.com/blog/2008/9/1/creating-an-new-ec2-ami-from-within-vmware-or-from-vmdk-files
If I have my domain with Google can I send email through my own mail server so no-one can see I'm using Gmail at all ? I have about 20 users and like the webmail but want to use our own mail server. If my mail server fails can I just switch over to using the Google mail server ?
Asked in: Email-Servers  (2 answers)
TomPating's response: Actually from about six months ago it's possible to use your own FROM address and your own SMTP server for outbound emails. If you expand "I'm a Gmail or Google Apps user sending from an external address." then those few steps give you a chance to enter an SMTP password for your server. It works brilliantly and if your server isn't working then it's a couple of clicks to use Google's. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=22370
There's a few HOWTOs and FAQs out there but I'm looking for a guide that will work for optimising MYSQL queries on Linux for sure. Thanks.

Should I encrypt home directories on servers ? I wonder if just making the directories non-world readable might be fine for a few logins on our servers ? I use: ls -ld /home/username and chmod 0750 /home/username Is that pretty secure from other users ?
